“It’s a lot of work to keep up with a following of 70K people, and it was something that I didn’t start until October of 2020, when I was already working full-time at NASA for a few years at that point. I was just like, what would I have wanted to see when I was young thinking about pursuing STEM? I want to be the person that young me would have looked up to and so I started @adastrasu.”
Susan Martínez is a NASA trained Rocket Scientist who inspires a global community of women to dream for the stars as she publicly shares her life as a space engineer while premiering some of the highest fashion and beauty choices in the scientific community. She models for over 70k followers exactly what it looks like when a woman chooses to be both, both brilliant and beautiful.
Ms. Martínez was awarded #STEMINIST Hero of the Year in 2022 for her public advocacy work as a role model for young girls, where she stated her mission was to become the role model she wished for when she was a little girl.

As a young girl in Appalachia Susan Martínez used to stare up at the stars dreaming about a future in space, but on the ground she felt alone because she’d never met a single female engineer. Her world was completely devoid of role models that looked like her and it made it hard to believe in a future where she could become a rocket scientist. Still she persisted, straight from community college all the way to NASA, this is her story.
